What is CBG?

Cannabigerol the next big Cannabinoid

Cannabigerol CBG

CBG is one of more than 120 identified cannabinoid compounds found in the Cannabis plant. It is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid; CBG is the precursor so during the growth of the plant, most of the cannabigerol is converted into other cannabinoids, like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD). In most strains cultivated for THC and CBD there is very little CBG around 1%, but new strains have been cultivated that have high amounts of CBG and lower amounts CBD and under .3% total THC.

CBG is a minor cannabinoid and a precursor to THC and CBD. It is found in very low levels in most strains of Cannibis

Scientific Breakdown

To create Cannabigerolic acid CBGA the plant combines Geranyl pyrophosphate and Olivetolic acid . The CBGA has a long chain of carbon molecules that is able to configure in different ways, into CBDA or THCA or CBCA. For that transformation to take place the plant produces enzymes which are helpers that catalyze the reaction needed to convert CBGA into other cannabinoids. Since CBGA can form into a few different molecules the deciding factor is the enzyme that is introduced. So if the plant produces a lot of THCA it will have a certain kind of enzyme, or if it produces a lot of CBDA it will a different kind of enzyme. This is how scientist manipulate how much of a cannabinoid is produced in a plant. They can do this through selective breeding or genetic manipulation.

What Does CBG do For you?

CBG is has been studied very little but those studies have shown it has anti-inflammatory and pain management properties. Others have study its effects in colon cancer tumor mitigation. Also reportedly can reduce intra-ocular pressure in glaucoma or help with neuroinflammation in a chronic model of multiple sclerosis. These are scientific studies done in very small scale with interactions between Specific types of cells and enzymes no human trails have been studied and reported to help alleviate these symptoms through regular consumption.

But many people have reported good effects when smoking CBG flower some people report it giving a calming effect and mellow feeling. Or ingesting some CBG derivatives people have reported anti-inflammatory and slight pain reduction. The future of CBG is promising on a multitude of levels
